The Halloween Countdown, Day 4
Last year on this date I mentioned that it was Time To Terrorize the Kids and spoke briefly of the spooky story anthologies I adored in elementary school, mostly babbling about Robert Arthur's Ghosts and More Ghosts. Today I'm going to take a stroll down Memory Lane (aka Senescence Street) with Alfred Hitchcock's Ghostly Gallery.
I do this because I happened to run across a blog called The Haunted Closet yesterday wherein "Brother Bill" of Phoenix, AZ posted some scans of the wonderful illustrations contained therein (click the pics to embiggen):
This is why I love teh Intarwebs; eventually I'll be able to recreate my entire childhood.

A great bit of nostalgia. Before video, if there was nothing of interest on the THREE channels we could decently get, pull out a book! And the Banbery illustrations were to die for!
I read and re-read those stories staring at the pictures for, well, it seemed like hours (late at night, deep under the covers, flashlight in hand--same method I used for FM, Creepy, and Eerie).
"The Waxworks" illustrations and story always got me!
I own AH's Haunted Houseful; guess I need to get Ghostly Gallery and Monster Museum.

I had that book! Wow--brought back memories!
You may recall it was one of the most popular books in the Jackson-Wilson Library.
