A Little Halloween Reading Material...

The Halloween Countdown, Day 10

These days Halloween just isn't Halloween without spooky movies, TV specials (Roseanne was always good for capturing the spirit of Halloween), the Richmond Zombie Walk*...

And a few good books.

There's required reading: The Halloween Tree, The October Country, Dark Carnival (if you can find a copy), there are collections of short stories for young and old alike (see my brief discussions here and here)...

And there's stuff I just discovered.

Now, originally I was going to babble about one of my favorite movies and probably the most underrated spooky film of all time, The Company of Wolves (see it on YouTube in ~10 min. segments here), but in tooling around the Intarwebs looking for information I found out a few things.

The film was based on a story in Angela Carter's The Bloody Chamber, an anthology of (very adult) updates to classic fairy tales, so of course I had to go out and purchase a copy. Oh, it's full of good stuff, eerie and off-kilter and just plain haunting.

Perfect for your Halloween reading pleasure.

* The 5th Annual Richmond Zombie Walk will be taking place this year on Saturday, Oct. 24--gather at Benedictine High School parking lot at 1:00 p.m. for the initial briefing and walk through Carytown soon thereafter.
