Vincent Speaks!

Halloween Countdown Day 28

It just isn't Halloween without the mellifluous tones of Vincent Price and now, courtesy of a LiveJournal friend of my friend Anne, you can experience his full range with The Twelve Greatest Things Vincent Price Ever Did (A Personal List--Your Price May Vary).

I'd forgotten about the Shrunken Head Apple Sculpture Kit (1975) until I read this article. I'm 53 and I still want one!

Addendum: a YouTube video of the 2008 Richmond (VA) Zombie Walk!

I actually met, talked to, and shook hands with Vincent Price! It was back in the day when I was on the program board at Madison, and he came to give a lecture. There was a reception, so I got to socialize. He was quite tall. At least he seemed so to me. But then, just about everybody seems so to me!!

Hey--I'll have some news on my blog within the next few days... how fates do align positively sometimes...

Ah, Vinnie. I did see him at JMU aeons ago, and we did get some great shots of him (and a perfectly retched audio cassette tape which I love- I snuck the recorder in). I really think the man was a national treasure. After the kids became aware of who he was, I had them draw pictures and sent them to him. He sagely approved and sent each a personalized autographed photo. I also sent some photos from the JMU event and a lobby card from "Diary of a Madman". When I got the envelope back he had also included an 8X10 inscribed "to the Moyers, all!". It was at the JMU event that I heard the Poe poem "Alone" recited by him and it has since become a favorite. For any misfits out there, check it out! God,I miss him.

How on EARTH did I miss Vincent Price at Madison/JMU?

Cath: he was 6 ft. 4 in. after all. That's tall by any standard!

Sam: That is so abso-freakin'-lutely cool!

Saw The Tingler on TCM Thursday evening and realized just how much I miss Vincent...

"Well, it's more of an acid..."

Lucky you, Cathy and Jsam! :-D

Being a misfit/loner myself, I had to look up that Poe poem, and found this awesomeness:

Lee, It was a dry spell as I think you were in Boston. Helen and I, Scot, and Lynn went, if I remember correctly. Good times! Another fun time I remember is Vinnie's cameo (a favor) in "Bloodbath at the House of Death" when, at a black mass, Le Price extinguishes a candle with his hand and utters the "S" word. His dutiful followers repeat after him, and the misadventures ensue . . . .The only bright spot in an otherwise dreadful film. Did you know that John Carpenter wanted Peter Cushing to play Sam Loomis in "Halloween"? Cushing's agent turned him down (if Cushing had known, I'm sure he would have done it.) Apparently the agent's (John Redmond)response was along the lines of "Mr Cushing would not deign to take this part", a very unCushing-like response, considering he had already done "Shock Waves" with John Carridine, Luke (Flipper) Halpin, and Brooke Adams(!) in 1975, as a favor to new director Ken Wiederhorn.

I just saw the scene in "The Body Snatcher" where Karloff explains "Burking" to Lugosi. It is a tremendous performance on both actors' part. Karloff sings, Lugosi plays dumb, and (thanks to stunt doubles) experiences the technique. Considering both actors were ill at the time (Lugosi with sciatic trouble and his addiction, Karloff on a crackers and milk diet, fending off back ailments), it is an amazing tour de force segment. One only has to see Martin Landau as Lugosi committing himself for treatment in "Ed Wood" to understand, in part, how a human being "goes on".

Yeah... I've been pretty lax updating lately, too. Things are just crazy at work, and we're still busy socializing the kitty (and making strides, but she was well on her way to feral!)... hope things are okay!
