Yeah, baby!
Bastille Day! Let's party like it's 1789* and go
behead us some aristocrats!
Time to start building that
guillotine...
*Well, 1790, actually; Bastille Day commemorates the
Fête de la Fédération, held on the 1st anniversary of the
storming of the Bastille, but y'all don't really care, do you?
Any excuse for a party will do!
Vive la France! Vive la liberte!
ReplyDeleteAnd Vive moi!
C'est mon anniversaire, aujourd'hui!
Let's not go into which one...
This year, we knew better than to try to reserve a table at a French bistro... we're heading to Celtic Knot for Irish fare again. And tonight is bluegrass night. Yeehaw!
And most assuredly vive vous!
ReplyDeleteThis is how I remember your birthday--it's Bastille Day, Jackie Tyson's voice echoes through my head, and you're...uh...uh...you're the same age as I am, 34.
Just for the record, Honegger wrote "La Marche sur la Bastille" (yeah!) and of course, joyeux anniversaire, Cathy (and hope your mother is having a good trip). I should be so active at MY age!
ReplyDeleteAllons enfants de la Patrie
ReplyDeleteLe jour de gloire est arrivé.
Contre nous, de la tyrannie,
L'étandard sanglant est levé,
l'étandard sanglant est levé,
Entendez-vous, dans la compagnes.
Mugir ces farouches soldats
Ils viennent jusque dans nos bras
Egorger vos fils,
vos compagnes.
Aux armes Citroen!
Formez vos bataillons,
Marchons, marchons!
Chang sang impure
Abreuve nos sillons.
